The NRFTA operates from two sites: at the University of Teesside in Midddlesbrough, at which most of the staff and approximately half the collection are located, and at Tyne and Wear Archives Service (TWAS) in Newcastle, where an access officer (part-time) and the remainder of the collection are housed. If you are interested in depositing materials or with us or in access to the collection, please feel free to contact us at whichever site is most convenient for you.

If you do need to come by car, you must let us know in advance. If you turn up at the University without a pre-booked visitor space, the security guards probably won't let you in.

Following Lisa Bond's resignation in May 2006, there is currently no permanent member of staff based at the Newcastle office. We can meet visitors there, but as someone will need to come up from Middlesbrough, this must be arranged in advance. Please contact us at Middlesbrough by telephone or e-mail in the first instance.

Please send any unsolicited post to the Middlesbrough address above, not Newcastle.

Laura maintains and develops the NRFTA's computerised database. This records information about the film and television material we hold in order to facilitiate preservation and access. It includes information about people, places and issues covered in the footage, when it was produced and where and how it was originally seen. The database also records technical information about the format and condition of each item, as well as the information about copyright ownership needed to enable commercial footage licensing. Please contact Laura if:

  • You are a commercial user (e.g. a researcher for a TV production company) interested in licensing footage, or;
  • You are a University of Teesside Media Production student wanting to use NRFTA footage in your assessed coursework productions.
